About

Karen Holmes is a licensed attorney in California and New Mexico. She created these courses after realizing that many people simply needed to understand the terminology and processes involved in resolving their legal questions. Many of her clients showed up at their initial consultations without any idea of what their legal options were. Karen wanted to save people time and money by offering a preliminary education in some of the basic legal questions they will face. Her compassionate, informative approach will leave you feeling prepared and confident as you navigate your legal concerns.

Karen graduated Magna Cum Laude from California State University, Bakersfield in 2000 with a Bachelors Degree in English. She worked as Production Coordinator for Pappas Teleproductions (KMPH TV) and as a Legal Assistant for Pillsbury Winthrop LLP (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman) before enrolling at William & Mary School of Law in 2004. As a student, she earned the Gambrell Professionalism Award and Honors in Legal Skills for excellence in legal research, writing, analysis, and trial and appellate practice. She served as Co-Chair of the school’s Institute of the Bill of Rights Law and volunteered as a Student Liason for the American Bar Association. After graduating in 2007, Karen took a short-term clerkship with Justice Ron Robie of the California Court of Appeals then worked as a contract attorney with the Central California Appellate Project from 2008-2009.

In 2010, Karen and her husband left their jobs and home for an adventure of sailing across the Pacific Ocean before starting their family.

For the last five years, Karen has managed her own small law firm in Northern New Mexico, focusing on family law and estate planning. She enjoys camping, writing, and exploring the Southwest.
